We made Easter biscuits today and Abby asked Stephen to read the story of Jesus' empty tomb while we ate them. It was a fun time. Here's the recipe:
Easter Biscuits
1 can refrigerated biscuit dough
large marshmallows
Preheat oven to 350F. Flatten dough into 3-inch circles. Let child place a large marshmallow in the center of each circle, then seal the dough around the marshallow. Place the biscuits, with their seam sides down, on a cookie sheet and bake for about 10 minutes. Cool the Easter biscuits before eating them and watch your child discover that the biscuits are empty inside - just like Jesus' tomb on Easter morning!

The LITTLE GIRL Grapes
Okay, I just read the last blog post to Abby for fun and she corrected me. There were three little girl green grapes, not a mama grape. But one little girl grape's mama told her that she didn't want the other two little girl grapes to get in Abby's mouth. Interesting.
The Mama Grape
Today at lunch Abby was turning her food into playmates again. She had three green grapes left on her plate. One was the mama and the other two were the little girls. The mama grape was telling the two little girl grapes to get in Abby's mouth. The two little girl grapes didn't want to. Or so Abby said.
My mama mind started whirling, thinking of all the wonderful ways I could use these grapes to teach her about having an obedient heart but I couldn't seem to think of anything wise to say to so I responded with a deer-in-headlights face and said, "Okay." And now, I just have to laugh at myself because she was great with that answer and she ate her grapes and moved on. Maybe next time I will take more advantage of a teachable moment but for today, "Okay" will have to suffice.

God, the Breath-Giver
Some friends of our family just had their second baby last night. He was diagnosed with a terminal illness and they expected to hold him for minutes after his birth, at best. We have been asking God to heal little, Cohen, knowing that He can and now seeing that he IS! God is showing His power, His might and His unfailing love in ways we could not ask or imagine. He is giving this baby unexplainable breaths - breaths that are sustaining his life. Please read the McGowan family blog, www.cortmcgowan.blogspot.com to follow the updates with us. God is SO very good to allow us to pray and see prayers answered with a "Yes" over and over again!
Momnesia
Finally, there is a name for it. Momnesia. It's what happens to your brain after the birth of a baby. Supposedly it occurs because you have high levels of estrogen, testosterone, and oxytocin raging in your brain, you lose more than 700 hours of sleep during your baby's first year, and you only have so many brain cells and once you've remembered to feed your baby, change him/her, help him meet all of his milestones, remember his doctor appointments (WHEW!) you then forget to shower, brush your teeth, and pay for your groceries when you're leaving the store. And, yes, I have forgotten all of those things! Maybe when Brody turns one I will become a little better at being normal, who am I kidding?!?! :)

Church Answers
Sydney is learning the system. Today, I was giving the girls clear instructions to clean their room (something we're working on). We always tell them God wants us to obey all the way, right away and with a happy heart. They have it memorized when we ask. Today, I wanted to make sure they really understood what it meant so I asked them how we clean our room "all the way". Guess what Sydney's answer was..."GOD!" She was so proud of her answer. I guess she is right, He gives us the ability us obey all the way. But something tells me she is not that mature in her understanding of the Holy Spirit's work in a Believer's life. :)

Okay, it is a new year and this is the first time I'm updating the blog. Life has gotten much easier but I am having to let some things go. Stephen and I just returned from a super-duper-wonderful FREE trip to the Bahamas for four days. He did a promotion at work for his top sellers and they got to bring spouses, so he did, too!
Family Update:
Stephen is currently at a movie, I think he said it had something to do with U2. Friday night he was like a kid in a candy shop because he organized a rock band competition and he required the attendees to dress up and compete for an actual trophy. He loved every minute of it.
Abby is growing up so fast. She is becoming more and more of a rule follower, which, yes, she does come by honestly! She also LOVES wearing dresses and wants to change clothes 3 or 4 times a day. She also helps me a ton with Brody, Sydney and sometimes with dinner! Oh, and last night I told her the sad news that our friend's grandfather that had cancer passed away. We'd been praying for him and she has been praying that Jesus would heal him. I was concerned about her reaction to the news. When I told her she just asked, "So is Jesus just going to heal him in heaven?" I was blown away. God is so good!
Sydney is growing more and more fun everyday, too. We knew she had a lot of personality but she is seeming to become more outgoing, more funny and more energetic. She also loves to sing and change the words to songs. Lately she's been singing, "Jesus loves so-and-so, yes, I know, for the Bible tells me so..." Usually she sings it about her bear, "B" but sometimes she'll include one of us! And, Sydney has decided that she likes church again, which makes Sundays much easier!
Brody is so much fun, too. He smiles all the time and is constantly babbling. He really has a lot to say. He's also growing like a weed and is in the 83rd percentile for height. He is twice as active as the girls were at this age and he drinks a nice amount of milk, too. He's destined to play football, I just know it!
As for me, I'm driving Stephen crazy trying recipes out of the Deceptively Delicious cookbook by Jessica Seinfeld. I am trying to eat super healthy so I can possibly have more energy. The lack of sleep is catching up with me! Sydney loves the spinach/carrot brownies and the whole family loves the mac and cheese with cauliflower puree! I don't think the chickpea chocolate chip cookies will ever be good, though. This is my third batch.
Carrie, the dog, is getting old. She's actually turning gray. I think the kids stress her out.
Anyway, we're busy, not blogging much, but doing super! I am thanking God for His provision, faithfulness and longsuffering right now. We've needed all of it! I better go now, I have to feed Brody again and shower for tomorrow!
