Happy Birthday, Stephen!

Brody's Extraction Surgery

Brody was given an extra front tooth at birth that we discovered at his 6-year old dental checkup. We promptly scheduled surgery to remove it, as it was preventing his other two teeth from coming in properly.

Nephews, Curve Balls, and a Monkey Bar Tumble

So our day started with an attempt to do school with two of my nephews in the house. They are both super and we really don't get to spend time with them often enough.

My kids were less than interested in school, however. I get it. Fun was to be had.

Meanwhile, my dad-in-law, who they were staying with, was having an harder-than-expected-recovery from last minute kidney stone surgery. So I scooped them up early.  And my mom-in-law had to work and then get their broken heater fixed. Oh, the curve balls. She deserves a medal.

My man is out of town.

So tonight at soccer practice, just a few feet behind me, my child who wants to remain nameless, hit his nose on the monkey bar, fell on his nose when he hit the ground, and managed to lose both shoes in the process. The blood poured, spewed, really. We found ourselves at MD360 and I was questioning, "Is he tired because it's now bedtime, or because he has a concussion? Am I wasting money? Do we need that X-ray? I'm tired. He says he's hungry. That's a good sign, right? Will this blood come out of his favorite shirt?..."

The sweet doctor gave us peace of mind. If he does have a hairline fracture, it won't cause problems. No apparent sign of concussion. Expect black and blue nose and black eyes tomorrow. Don't let him pick his nose. Ibuprofen, but not until tomorrow.

So we left, happy I didn't pay for an unnecessary x-ray, and happy he is fine. Not necessarily in that order.
The nameless child was awarded a treat - the whole reason he was "hungry". The gas station didn't have Cliff bars in an obvious place, so his next best thing was a Sprite.

He smiled long enough for me to snap the pic. No more smiles because that hurt.

I'm hitting the sack with a tired head. Thankful for the blessings that made today. Thankful for my very present Immanuel.

And, remember, my child wants to remain nameless.  So please don't mention this post.  :)  But I did get his permission to post it...with a promise to let him play Skylanders on the Wii U for a few minutes.

Update 02-26-2014 - B did wake with swelling, was happy by that afternoon, then spiked an unrelated-but-scary-for-Mama fever that evening.  Ups and downs - the story of our week:

Snowapacolypse 2014

All of Greenville knew this was coming.  Rumors said that we'd get anywhere from 2 to 10 inches.  Milk and bread were scarce at the grocery stores, along with everything else you can put in your mouth.  The produce sections were very bare, and the crowds were unprecedented.  It was crazy.

We all hunkered down and planned to be inside, doing lots of cooking, hoping we'd keep power this time.  I'm so glad to tell you we did.

Tuesday we were loving not going anywhere and were out in it as soon as there was anything to be out in.

We played "snow soccer" as a family:

We watched warmed up, watching movies and drinking hot cocoa:

I was able to work in a "walk" with Greta:

Brody changed hats when they got wet:

The Macy and Sydney enjoyed their time in the snowy creek bank:

MG joined in the fun:

 Brody loved the Pruitt's sleds:

I actually went sledding down Strange Road, had a video to prove it, and accidentally deleted the video.  :(

By Wednesday, we waited until the afternoon to get out and play.  We had a snowball fight:

We built a snowman:

Guess who DIDN'T want their picture with the snowman?

And guess who likes to be a ham whenever he can?

Carrie went for a walk with us:

Stephen came out and we played with the Pruitts next door:

 Carrie's footprints:

By Thursday we were going stir-crazy.  But we went out one last time.

Stephen took the Corolla out for a spin early that evening, since the snow was melting and had not re-frozen.  We ended up getting a pizza that night and Meagan and Jonathan from our community group came over for cocoa and cider.

By Friday, we were thankful it happened, but ready for it to be done.  I needed more groceries!  :)

But we did stop by Publix long enough to get stuff for a proper Valentine's Breakfast:

And before all the snow melted, we snapped a photo Rainbow, Brody's 5K class' stuffed animal, who we were supposed to take on adventures with us that week.
